I read an article on Verge Network website today that really resonated with me. It is entitled…
In case you haven’t heard, the word “Missional” has become somewhat of a catch phrase among church planting evangelicals. This is a great article for those who struggle tying in the “missionary” aspect of being the church in our city with the fact that we still need to gather regularly for worship and good Bible teaching.
Whenever a new idea comes along, or an idea that goes against the fabric of what we’ve always thought about the way things ought to be, it usually meets some resistance. But I would encourage you, if you call yourself a follower of Christ, to seriously consider the reframing of your existence here in America as that of a missionary.
The church needs to be Gathered AND Scattered in and throughout our cities. Only a BOTH / AND mentality will get Christian people coming and going to the places where God calls us to.
If all our churches do is “Gather” on Sunday’s, then we’ll miss the opportunities we have to love people in our neighbourhoods, schools, and workplaces…
If All our churches do is “Scatter”… A strong sense of identity, a unified community of faith, a space for vision to be cast, and the regular worship together that we all need gets lost in the next mission or service project.
Gathering allows us to Be.
Scattering allows us to Do.
Do-Be-Do-Be-Do should be the song of a well balanced church of American Missionaries.
