“American culture is probably the least Christian culture that we’ve ever had because it is so materialistic and it’s so full of lies. The whole advertising world is just, it’s just intertwined with lies, appealing to the worst of the instincts we have.”
Eugene Peterson
Cursing the darkness has always been popular. It’s always easier to judge something that is so easily judge-able. Nobody’s really talking about all the great things our current political candidates are doing or have done. It’s all mudslinging, all the time.
Election year in America, has become, and for a long time now, always has been about painting a negative picture of a politician than it has ever been about creating something good. If we are honest, we like the spectacle. Elections are entertaining.
Of course, the reality that sets in for all of us is when those we have been entertained by begin to actually do what they really want to do once they take office, which is almost always completely different from the platform they ran on.
We are soulstuck. Our nation is completely lost. In my life, I have never felt more confused and disappointed in the way the leaders of this nation of ours have decided, or not decided to run our nation.
Hope
Today, though, I want to offer hope. Hope that it is not in politics. Hope that is not in national policy.
The truth is that our leaders can pass laws, try to create opportunities for jobs, and negotiate business deals that will either help or hurt our national persona. But the power of our nation doesn’t come from our leaders.
We the people.
Our people are what make America great. If you can change people, then you can change America. And the way you change people is by moving their hearts.
That is what this website is all about. Soulstuck exists because people’s hearts need hope. The only hope that I can offer you is the hope that comes from a heart that has been recreated, restored, and renewed by God through the power of His Spirit, apprenticed in the ways of Jesus.
Our nation is soulstuck. But that is because we have allowed ourselves to be.
Confidence about the future comes when we rest in the knowledge of who God has created us to be.
It all begins in the heart.
And I will continue to write about the heart here at soulstuck.com because I know that when I have your heart, I’ve got your head, your hands, your feet, and the rest of you.
It is time to return, not to a religious past, but to a faith-filled, creative future.
Stop today and reflect on the condition of your heart. Have you met the man from Nazareth? He wants to apprentice you to His ways.
You only need to let Him in.
A nation follows the heart of its people. Even in the darkness, you can shine a light. If enough of us are willing to, with the power of Christ, we can change the world.
