“There are no shortcuts in growing up. The path to maturity is long and arduous. Hurry is no virtue. There is no secret formula squirreled away that will make it easier or quicker. But stories help.”
― Eugene H. Peterson,
We call it Easter. (Ironically, Easter is a name taken from a Saxon pagan goddess of Spring)
Whatever you want to call it…Resurrection is the point.
But so much more.
We are born dead.
Oh yes, we are screaming for our mommies when we exit the womb… but as we become aware of the death that exists within our bodies and our spirits… we long for life and we wonder who we must cry to to find it.
We cry out to our leaders because we think that through them we will find our happiness.
We cry out to our entertainers because we want to escape the death that so quickly pervades our uninteresting lives.
We cry out to our educators because we believe that the more knowledge we have, the more capable we are going to become of creating life in our dead souls.
We cry out to our families because we still hope that finding approval and validation from our mothers and fathers will infuse life within our barren souls.
All the while we try to raise our own spirits, renew our own brokenness, and create a better version of ourselves..when we what we need is simply….resurrection.
Brand New Souls.
This is the message of the gospel.. Not simply a patch job.
Brand Spanking New Creation.
Open your eyes.
You can’t do this one on your own.
